Acute Rehabilitation and Inpatient Acute Care Unit

Volunteers will assist Physical, Occupational, and Speech therapists with various department needs. This role requires a minimum of 4 hours of standing and/or walking.

Requirements:

  • Commit at least 50 hours with a minimum of 4 hours biweekly. Volunteer hours must be completed within 9 months.
  • Letter of recommendation will be considered only after a minimum of 100 hours of volunteer service
  • Must be at least 18 years of age
  • Must be enrolled and completed 2 years of an undergraduate program
  • Must be applying to therapy school within 2 years of volunteer service
  • Must have completed a minimum of 100 hours of volunteer and/or work as an aide in an outpatient and/or another area of therapy. Proof is required.

When: Monday-Saturday

Available Shifts: 8:00 AM – 12:00 PM and 1:00 PM – 4:00 PM

Blood Donor Center

Volunteers will assist the staff with making phone calls, filing, stocking and preparing supplies and serving donors cookies and juice.

Available Shifts:
Mondays: 8:00 AM – 12:00 PM and 12:00 PM – 4:00 PM
Tuesdays/Thursdays: 10:00 AM – 2:00 PM
Wednesdays/Fridays: 8:00 AM – 12:00 PM and 12:00 PM – 4:00 PM

Cardiac Monitor Unit Support Volunteer

Volunteers will assist clinical staff with patient discharges and other duties based on department needs of the Cardiac Monitoring Unit. This role requires a minimum of 4 hours of standing and/or walking. *Wheelchair training will be provided at hospital orientation to assist with properly discharging patients.

Requirements:

  • Must be at least 18 years of age
  • Must commit to at least 6 consecutive months done with at least one 4hr shift per week
  • Interpersonal skills – Excellent Communication, empathy and positive attitude

When: Monday - Sunday

11:00 AM – 3:00 PM

Emergency Room Volunteer

The Emergency Room volunteers will provide support to the Emergency Department staff. This is a fast-paced high acuity-level department and the focus is to provide comfort and service to the Emergency Department patients and their families which will include keeping them informed, escorting families to designated areas as directed by staff, providing comfort items to patients and families in the waiting areas, replenish supplies in patient rooms as directed by staff. Applicants must be over 18 years old, no high school students.

When:

ICU Greeter

Volunteers will greet and escort families and guests, assist staff with stocking supplies and filing paperwork.

Outpatient Rehabilitation (Balance/Vestibular, Orthopedic, Neurologic)

Volunteers will assist Physical, Occupational, and Speech therapy staff in our department. This role requires a minimum of 4 hours of standing and/or walking.

Requirements:

  • Commit at least 50 hours with a minimum of 4 hours biweekly. Volunteer hours must be completed within 9 months. Letter of recommendation will be considered only after a minimum of 100 hours of volunteer services.
  • Must be at least 18 years of age
  • Must be currently enrolled in education program and have completed 2 years of undergraduate program
  • Must be applying to therapy school within 2 years of volunteer services
  • Strongly recommended applicants have previous experience volunteering or working as an aid in other rehab settings
  • Must be compassionate and engaged in learning about rehabilitation

When: Monday - Friday

Available Shifts: 8:00 AM – 12:00 PM and 12:00 PM – 5:00 PM

Pet Therapy Volunteers (Adult Patients)

This program is for individuals who are interested in working with adult patients. Volunteers engage with adults one on one in their rooms. Volunteers are oriented to several hospital units and are trained so that they can work independently during their volunteer time.

Requirements: All volunteers must be 21 years of age or older, have extensive experience with working with adult patients, and be prepared to perform physical duties such as lifting and walking long distances. Pets must be certified through Pet Partners and provide a copy of certification. Volunteers are required to provide copies of shot records which include: Rabies, Parvo, Distemper, Hepatitis & or DA2pp (Combo vaccine with Distemper, Hepatitis, &Parvo). All Pets must be bathed before hospital visits.

Todd Cancer Institute

Volunteers will work alongside staff at the Todd Cancer Pavilion in an outpatient setting in the Ambulatory Infusion Center, Breast Center, or Oncology Rehabilitation. Volunteers will:

  • Greet and escort patients to waiting rooms in either the Breast Center or in Oncology Rehabilitation.
  • Offer patients blankets and nourishment items, and restock supplies in the Ambulatory Infusion Center.
Requirements:
  • Must be at least 18 years of age
  • Must commit to at least 6 months
  • Be courteous and personable.
  • Work well with clinical and administrative staff at TCI clinics

  • noon - 4 p.m.
