We are committed to supporting women in reaching their breastfeeding goals and to empower women with evidence-based quality education. Improving and maintaining the health status of mothers and babies through nutrition management is important to our staff as we provide reassurance to moms throughout their breastfeeding experience.

What we do...
Saddleback Memorial supports a mother’s choice to breastfeed and teaches techniques for a successful nursing experience. We also provide follow-up contacts and promote confidence in mother’s nursing ability.
Establishing trust and respect with a mother is important to our staff, as well as, answering questions completely with the most current accurate information. We ensure mothers are clearly aware of options regarding their breastfeeding management.

A Lactation Consultant is...
A highly specialized health care professional with advanced training in breastfeeding management. Our consultants are registered nurses and board certified.

What’s Included in a Lactation consultation?
During the consultation the lactation consultant will observe the baby breastfeeding in addition to assessing the maternal and infant anatomy. The lactation consultant will evaluate any breast feeding problems and make suggestions for resolving difficulties, and will also monitor the infant’s weight gain and development.

What Does The Lactation Support Program Offer?
Saddleback Memorial’s Lactation Support Program is proud to offer:

• In-hospital consultation services.
• Outpatient consultation services.
• Breastfeeding aids including bras, nipple shields, feeding syringes, and supplemental nursing systems.
• Breastfeeding classes.
• Mother and baby support groups.
• Breast pump sales, rentals, instructions and support.
• Special attention to our intensive care babies and their families.
• Assistance with breastfeeding multiples and other special situations.

Specialty Nursing Bras
In addition to the wide variety of items we sell, we are proud to offer the latest nursing bras. These bras are designed especially for expectant and nursing moms. If you are in need of a supportive bra for going back to work, nursing, leisure, or sleep, we have many styles to accommodate your needs.
