Baby Alumni Club Goals and Accomplishments
The goals of the Baby Alumni Club (BAC) are to establish volunteer efforts which:
- Raise funds to improve women's and children's health care.
- Increase public awareness of the excellent services at Saddleback Women's Hospital (SWH).
- Bring together families and friends of children born at SWH.
Accomplishments
- Changing tables installed in all men’s restrooms at SWH.
- 2nd floor SWH patio renovation
- Hand-painted tiles by children born at SWH and their families
- BAC’s annual Linda Bertucci Excellence in Nursing Award
- BAC display case
- Publication of BAC Talk, BAC’s newsletter, going out to over 5000 families
- Snugglies, baby bumpers and other preemie supplies for the NICU
- Utility carts for dad’s loading valuables in and out of the hospital
- Cart to carry items to moms in hospital, filled with books, videos, magazines and other things to help pass time
- Educational baskets for SWH Mom’s on Bedrest
- Development of a Bedrest Buddies Program
- Partnership with South Orange County Pediatrics to hold monthly Dad's Boot Camp
- Hosting OC Buckle-Up Program checking children’s car seats
- Provided nursing pillows to all new moms for use in the hospital.
- 3 years of Infant CPR/ Safety classes free to SWH families and grandparents
- New CPR tapes to help staff train parents of NICU babies
- Development of corporate/ community sponsorships for Annual Kid’s Olympics/ Punkin' Picnic
- New speaker enrichment program offering parenting workshops to SWH parents
- Added class on how to avoid pre-term labor for high risk pregnancies
- Funded lending library expansion
- Bereavement sensitivity training for SWH staff
- $500 of videos donated to new Erma Feldcamp Pediatric Unit
- Extra wide wheelchairs for new moms
- Foot stools for nursing moms
- 26 new rocking chairs for nurseries and LDRP rooms
- Funded $12,000 towards new Patient Education Room in newly expanded SWH area
- Redecorated NICU parent consultation / Education room
- Purchased NICU Isolettes
- Purchased three Cardiac/Respiratory Monitors
- Aided in funding the SWH expansion
Goals
- Increase membership in BAC
- Support SWH families with special needs children
- Increase community and corporate/business support
- Continue funding Infant CPR/Safety Classes free of charge to SWH families and grandparents
- Fund free Infant CPR/Safety Classes in Spanish
- Continue support for Moms on Bedrest program and the Bedrest Buddies Group
- Continue speaker enrichment programs and find community sponsors for them
- Continue publication of BAC Talk, BAC’s newsletter
- Increase awareness of expanded breast care center at SWH and its special features
- Set up a partnership with local auto dealer where Buckle-Up programs can take place
- Create partnerships between BAC and community leaders, businesses and individuals to help fund more parent education program
- Recruit BAC leaders
- Develop a speaker bank
- Purchase an additional 2-3 Cardiac/Respiratory Monitors
