As paramedic base station hospitals, Long Beach Memorial and Miller Children’s Hospitals handle approximately 1,000 paramedic calls per month. Paramedics base hospitals play an important role in the assessment and treatment of patients before they arrive in the emergency department, with physicians and nurses communicating with paramedics via radio.

Long Beach Memorial and Miller Children’s are staffed with mobile intensive care nurses and emergency physicians 24 hours per day, seven days a week and provide continuing education and quality improvement programs for all paramedic units that are assigned to them.

As one of the few hospitals in Los Angeles County with both adult and children’s hospitals, our Emergency Department is in a unique position to assist paramedics in treating patients of all ages. In fact, Miller Children’s is the only private, not-for-profit children’s hospital in Los Angeles and Orange Counties to serve as a paramedic base.

Last year, Long Beach Memorial/Miller Children’s handled more than 12,000 calls through five paramedic units assigned to the base.

MemorialCare Health System is a not-for-profit integrated-delivery system which includes Long Beach Memorial Medical Center, Miller Children’s Hospital Long Beach, Orange Coast Memorial Medical Center and Saddleback Memorial Medical Center in Laguna Hills and San Clemente. Our community-based hospitals are located in Southern California in both Los Angeles County and Orange County. Copyright © 1999 - 2009, Memorial Health Services. All rights reserved.
