Join Our Corporate Partners—Partnerships in Excellence

Initiated in 2002, the Memorial Medical Center Foundation's Partnerships in Excellence (PIE) program is dedicated to philanthropic support of life-saving medical equipment for patients and their families.

Each year, dedicated business leaders focus on critical equipment needs for diagnosis and ongoing care at Long Beach Memorial. Members gather twice a year at mixers hosted by local businesses to learn how their support makes a difference to patients and their families. They hear firsthand testimonies from physicians and their patients.

Since inception, PIE members have raised more than $1 million – the following are just a few of the items being used in the diagnosis and treatment of patients all over our campus right now:

  • A hyperbaric chamber, which allows our clinicians from anywhere on the campus to prescribe this healing treatment for adults and children undergoing wound care due to a trauma, or saving a limb where infection has caused the possible loss and much more.
  • iStan the human simulator used by our nursing students from Long Beach City and Long Beach State in their degree program.
  • A pediatric echocardiogram for the tiniest of patients at Miller Children's Hospital Long Beach in need of critical heart care.
  • The Electromagnetic Bronchoscopy (ENB) which has already diagnosed a very difficult to find cancer in the lung of an unsuspecting patient who came in for a routine X-ray.

We invite you to consider your place in this unique Partnership. PIE membership is open to any business owner or executive who wants to support Long Beach Memorial and Miller Children's Hospital Long Beach.

Specific Area for Fiscal Year 2014: Beginning July 1, 2013 and ending June 30, 2014, “Partnerships in Excellence” will focus their philanthropic support of patients at Long Beach Memorial on the MemorialCare Heart and Vascular Institute.

Portable Heart/Lung Machine for the MemorialCare Heart and Vascular Institute

This year Partnerships in Excellence has vowed to help purchase a lifesaving piece of equipment for Long Beach Memorial's Heart and Vascular Institute- a portable heart/lung machine.

A portable heart/lung machine is used to move critically ill patients easily and safely to different areas of the hospital for medical tests or from outlying hospitals to the medical center for specialized treatment.

With this new device, we will never have to say that a patient is too sick to move. This machine will enable us to safely move a patient who is in cardiogenic shock to the imaging device needed to provide better diagnostics or to a catheterization lab that might facilitate treatment. It will also allow us to transport very sick patients from less specialized hospitals that have provided all the treatment available to them.
