What to Expect for Surgery
Joint Replacement Specialists are trained and experienced in advanced surgical techniques for joint replacement. Surgeons perform joint replacement surgeries with orthopedic-trained nurses and other health care specialists.
Many joint replacements can be performed with a minimally invasive approach, resulting in a smaller incision, shorter hospital stay and faster recovery. Surgeons can use newly designed implants that are less bulky and more durable, increasing the longevity of the implant.
These durable implants have made minimally invasive hip and knee replacements a new option for many younger, more active patients who were not considered candidates for hip or knee replacement surgery in the past. The surgeon decides which type of implant and implant material – metal, plastic or ceramic – are best for their patient.
