Hand Rehabilitation Center
The Long Beach Memorial Hand Center, one of the few centers of its kind in Greater Los Angeles, offers innovative services for individuals who have sustained traumatic or cumulative upper extremity injuries or have lost function due to disease. Memorial Hand Rehabilitation Center therapists work closely with orthopedic and plastic surgeons specializing in hand and upper extremity reconstructive surgery, as well as neurologists, rheumatologists, and general practitioners.Specialty services include:
- Management of hand/upper extremities, nerve, vascular, and soft tissue conditions and injuries;
- Fabrication of splints to improve function, prevent deformity and protect soft tissue and bone;
- Treatment of amputations and arthritic conditions;
- Functional retraining following disease or trauma of upper extremity;
- Wound Management; and
- Work station modification and ergonomic assessment for prevention of cumulative trauma injuries (i.e., carpal tunnel syndrome).
Memorial's Hand Rehabilitation Center offers the latest technology with its Primus BTE and Baltimore Work Simulator. The equipment can replicate thousands of functional activities from lifting a heavy crate to turning a doorknob, and greatly helps patients prepare for the many functional demands in their lives. The program has maintained high levels of patient satisfaction while returning patients to work and improving function in daily activities.
