Although more than 50 percent of the population of the United States is able to donate, fewer than 5 percent actually do. Every month more than 1,000 units of blood are used in life-saving procedures for adults, children and newborns at Long Beach Memorial and Miller Children’s Hospital.
There is no substitute for blood and there is always a need. Cancer patients undergoing chemotherapy or radiation treatment have depleted red cells and platelets and require regular transfusions. Injury and accident victims also require blood products. You can truly make a difference by donating blood. Blood saves lives.
