Comprehensive Stroke Center at Long Beach Medical Center

While several area hospitals are equipped to treat strokes, we have a Joint Commission Certified Comprehensive Stroke Center, allowing us to handle the most complex stroke cases. This is the highest level of recognition for stroke centers.

Upon arrival to the Emergency Department, our neurologists immediately assess patients in our dedicated stroke treatment room, which is equipped with telemedicine technology – making their expertise available 24/7. Our dedicated stroke nurses follow each patient to ensure they receive rapid treatments that minimize long-term damage. Using a 320 slice computed tomography (CT) scanner, areas of the brain affected by a stroke are diagnosed in minutes.

Using the latest technologies and treatment options, our Comprehensive Stroke Center is able to shave off minutes and assess a patient as quickly as possible to prevent permanent brain damage, disability or even death.

Neuroscience Care Team

We provide the most advanced stroke care through our well-developed teams of physicians, nurses, technicians, and ancillary teams to provide the highest level of care. Multi-disciplinary care by neurologists, neurosurgeons, interventional neuroradiologists and diagnostic neuroradiologist, in coordination with our Emergency Department and critical care teams, allow us to provide expedited and comprehensive care to attain the best possible outcomes for stroke patients.

Our Comprehensive Stroke Center is home to stroke-certified registered nurses (SCRN) who have formally recognized the attainment and demonstration of a unique body of knowledge necessary for the practice of stroke nursing.

SCRNs have made a commitment to lifelong learning and to providing the latest, most effective patient care and safety to the patients in our Comprehensive Stroke Center – making it one of the area's best.

Our neuroscience/stroke care team focuses on the education of nurses, patients and the community, reviews comprehensive quality measures, coordinates care with transferring hospitals, coordination of care after patient discharge, and participation in clinical research.
