Philip J. Di Saia, MD

Philip DiSaia M.D., is medical director of the MemorialCare Todd Cancer Institute at Long Beach Memorial. A world-renowned gynecologic oncologist and researcher, Dr. DiSaia has dedicated the past 38 years to the study of ovarian carcinoma and other gynecologic cancers, and in identifying better methods for prevention, early diagnosis and treatment.

Dr. DiSaia received his bachelors degree, cum laude, from Brown University in Rhode Island and his medical degree, cum laude, from Tufts University in Massachusetts. He completed his residency at Yale University in Connecticut and his gynecologic oncology fellowship at the University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center. Dr. DiSaia also has received an honorary doctorate degree from the University of Genoa, Italy. He is board certified in both obstetrics and gynecology and gynecologic oncology.

Dr. DiSaia’s clinical interests include ovarian carcinoma and other gynecologic cancers, as well as identifying better methods of prevention, early diagnosis and treatment of gynecologic cancers. He has published more than 400 peer reviewed articles, abstracts and book chapters. Dr. DiSaia especially is noted for his books “Danforth's Obstetrics & Gynecology" and “Clinical Gynecologic Oncology,” currently in its eighth edition.

Dr. DiSaia has been honored by many national and international awards including the Frederick Naftolin Award for Mentorship by the Society for Gynecologic Investigation (SGI) recognizing his contribution to training and career development of investigators in the field of reproductive and women’s health. He is the Dorothy Marsh Chair in Reproductive Biology and Chairman of the Gynecologic Oncology Group now merged with NRG Oncology.
