Joyce A. Kakkis, MD

Born in New York City, Dr. Kakkis is a graduate of Chapman College in Orange, California. She completed her medical degree, internship and residency at UC Irvine School of Medicine and was an Assistant Professor of Obstetrics and Gynecology at UC Irvine College of Medicine from 1985 to 2005. She began private practice in 1985 in Long Beach.

Dr. Kakkis has been a champion of women’s health since the start of her career. Her current practice is a women’s outpatient gynecology center to manage women’s health issues, especially hormonal problems. A nationally acclaimed educator, author, leader, and expert in women’s health, she has been a sought after keynote speaker, television and talk show guest.

Dr. Kakkis specializes in menopause management, hormone replacement therapy and outpatient gynecology. She has written a book entitled “Confessions of an Estrogen Evangelist”, about women and hormones in all phases of a woman’s life. In spite of her busy schedule, Dr. Kakkis is very available to her patients, offering them professional care and a supportive bedside manner. She has pioneered the design of patient friendly medical facilities. Her next book will be out soon expanding on hormone replacement in this new age.

She was President and Medical Director of WomanKind Medical Group until 1999. WomanKind, a primarily female physician group, provided comprehensive medical care to women at all stages of life. The clinic design was able to deliver optimum care by centralizing access to support services.

In the medical community, Dr. Kakkis is a revered physician, leader and entrepreneur, who paved the way for female physicians in a male-dominated profession. Kakkis is a role model, mentor, and inspiration to all women seeking success. She supports many women’s groups and presents seminars to women’s organizations. Her goals include keeping women healthy and motivated to start a career of business, enhance self-esteem, and enjoy a life with balance.

Dr. Kakkis and helped with fund-raising events for non-profits including The Susan G. Komen Foundation Breast Cancer Race for the Cure, Interval House Domestic Violence Shelter for Women and Children, Wounded Warriors, and other charity groups.

She is married to a physician and when not doctoring, crafting plans for women’s health, or writing her books, she likes to spend time with her family and tend to her garden. Dr. Kakkis has also written several original award winning screenplays based in the world of medicine.
