Jim W. Lam, MD

The reason I chose Family Practice instead of a relatively narrow specialty is I was never satisfied with practicing only one area of medicine (for instance, I have an interest in wilderness medicine, women's health issues, and skin care...in which I perform IPL Photofacials and hair removal, and I do minor office procedures like removal of skin growths).

As a Family Practice physician, I am able to care for the whole family and the individual "whole person." However, when more specialized care is needed, I do not hesitate to make the appropriate referrals and coordinate the care of my patients. Rather than focus on treatment of diseases, I believe we need to direct more attention toward preventive health and maintenance of wellness. Although each adult is responsible for her or his own health and to avoid bad habits like smoking, assistance from a health care professional is often needed. I believe that an individual's total well being includes not only physical, social and mental health, but also sexual health. I am open to suggestions from my patients on "alternative medicine" issues.

One of my favorite aspects of the physician/patient relationship is that not only am I being an advocate for my patients and being a source of medical information, I am always learning new things (both medical and non-medical) from my patients. I strive to listen to my patients and provide compassionate, personal care. I feel it is a privilege to be of service to my patients.
