Chee K. Ho, DO

Dr. Chee Ho has been practicing medicine since 1985, when he graduated from Ohio University’s College of Osteopathic Medicine and finished his internship from Pacific Hospital in Long Beach, California. Dr. Ho is board certified in family practice, and has also completed postgraduate training in prolotherapy, acupuncture, holistic medicine, and FirstLine Therapy (therapeutic lifestyle change).

Dr. Ho’s practice focuses on general family medicine, minor surgeries, osteopathic manipulative treatment, acupuncture, and prolotherapy. His medical philosophy adopts an integrative approach to promoting health and wellness, both treating diseases and managing pain. Dr. Ho also uses FirstLine Therapy in his approach because it emphasizes balanced and healthy eating, exercise, nutritional supplements, stress management and rest. This approach to preventative health care, Dr. Ho believes, reflects a proverb from a historic Chinese medical text: “An ordinary doctor treats the disease when it appears, but an excellent doctor treats the disease before it even appears.”Dr. Ho’s approach to family practice is part of his philosophy on healthy living. This concern applies to his own healthy aging, the well-being of his loved ones, and the health of his patients.

Dr. Ho himself enjoys good food, and has been studying, researching, and practicing healthy cooking and eating. This interest in the link between health and nutrition is also part of the Chinese historical and scientific tradition. Dr. Ho often explains this link with the use of Chinese idiomatic expressions, like “Eating food and taking medicine originate from the same principle,” (i.e., food should be viewed as another way to promote health in the body). Another proverb Dr. Ho likes to tell is, “Just as troubles exit the mouth, so disease or illness enter the mouth.” Nutrition and well-being are truly interrelated.

In keeping with an awareness of the whole body, Dr. Ho pays attention to the body-mind connection in treating his patients. Oftentimes his patients’ illnesses are stress-related. He promotes stress reduction through breathing exercises, meditation, guided imagery, music therapy, exercise therapy, and other proven alternative modalities. Dr. Ho is an especially strong proponent of exercise for good health. Like healthy eating, exercise is one of the important elements for a good foundation of health and strengthening the body to fight off illness.
