High-Risk Pregnancy Patients Receive a New Home at the MemorialCare Center for Women at Miller Children’s Hospital Long Beach & Long Beach MemorialFebruary 10, 2012Yolanda Perez and her daughter, Olivia, pull back the curtains to reveal the new perinatal special care unit at the MemorialCare Center for Women.
The MemorialCare Center for Women at Miller Children’s Hospital Long Beach and Long Beach Memorial recently opened its doors to a new perinatal special care unit specifically designed for expectant mothers with high-risk pregnancies. The new unit includes private rooms, a fetal diagnostics unit, two labor and delivery suites and a welcome area ensuring more comfort and privacy for patients and their families. To help kick-off the opening of the new unit, sponsors and cast members of the upcoming “Dancing for Our Stars” (DFOS) gala, joined other community members and the Memorial Medical Center Foundation for the celebratory opening. The DFOS gala, which takes place on Saturday, Feb. 11 at the Westin Long Beach, benefits the expansion of the new Center for Women. Each couple that’s dancing at the DFOS gala, previewed part of their routine for the crowd of 50. Before the red curtain reveal of the new unit, attendees heard remarks from LA County Fourth District Supervisor, Don Knabe, Suzie Reinsvold, COO of Miller Children’s, and former high-risk patient, Yolanda Perez who delivered her daughter at the Center for Women two years ago. “The Center for Women offers leading high-risk perinatal programs which provide constant monitoring of mother and baby, while the baby grows as much as possible in the stable environment of the womb. This newly, remodeled unit will allow the Center for Women at Miller Children’s and Long Beach Memorial to continue to provide compassionate, quality health care during pregnancy,” says Margaret Herman, executive director, Center for Women. “We have comprehensive programs of research, prevention, diagnosis, treatment, educational resources, family classes and individual and family support programs all under one roof.” Like Us.
