Meet Greg
Director of Pharmacy
Q: What makes your
work day satisfying?
A: Having the pharmacy run smoothly with as many pharmacy related medication interventions as possible.
Q: Why did you choose
your field?
A: I was working in a psychobiology lab at UC Irvine and have always been interested in pharmacology.
Q: Tell us how you used best practice medicine to enhance a patient’s life.
A: Following a patient's C/S and dosing several antibiotics per pharmacy. This was based on patient specific parameters, best practice models, and had a very positive impact on this patient's recovery.
Q: What exciting new technology, techniques or procedure(s) have you performed recently?
A: I have worked on the Epic Pharmacy system. Mainly the medication database to help prepare for the go live date at Saddleback Memorial Medical Center.
Q: What was your most rewarding day in the past year and why?
A: Completing a new pharmacy schedule, with four new staff members, for the expansion of pharmacy hours and services. This was a day filled with excitement, pride, and the potential to have a much larger impact on medication safety within this hospital.
Q: What advances or continuing education programs have you achieved?
A: I have completed 30-40 hours of continuing education every 2 years since graduating from pharmacy school. Most of my CE is on a broad array of medication related subjects and new medications.
Q: Tell us about the dynamics of your team, the size, collaboration and
talents, etc.
A: We have a staff of eight pharmacists and six technicians who have studied and worked in Southern California for most of their careers. Each of our staff members have extensive training in the inpatient hospital pharmacy setting. We communicate and work very well together and I feel that we have a highly skilled and professional pharmacy staff.
