Dr. Douglas W. Jackson is medical director of the MemorialCare Joint Replacement Center. He is an orthopaedic surgeon with a subspecialization in surgery of the knee. He also has been directly involved in the education of more than 50 fellows and numerous visits from foreign and domestic physicians through the Orthopaedic Sports Medicine Fellowship Program he established at Long Beach Memorial.
Dr. Jackson received his doctor of medicine and masters of science in 1966 from the University of Washington and completed his residency in Orthopaedic Surgery at L.A. County Harbor UCLA Medical Center. He has authored/edited 9 books, 47 book chapters, 81 peer-reviewed journal publications and 32 professional journal publications. He currently is serving as Medical Editor of Orthopedics Today and is a frequent contributor to this widely read scientific newspaper. His research efforts have focused on the knee and involved primarily work related to ligaments, menisci and articular cartilage. Among his honors and awards, Dr. Jackson has received the Excellence in Research Award, the Cabaud Award and Outstanding Service Award from the American Orthopaedic Society for Sports Medicine. Most recently (2008), he received the Diversity in Orthopaedics Award from Ruth Jackson Orthopaedic Society & J. Robert Gladden Orthopaedic Society.
