Dr. Ellestad served as Chief of Cardiology at LBMMC from 1962 to 1988 and as Director of Memorial Heart Institute from its inception in 1988 to 1992. He is now Care Line Director of Cardiology. Dr. Ellestad established the cardiology program at Memorial Medical Center and did the first heart catheterization, first angioplasty and organized the teaching program for cardiology fellows in 1965. He is best known for his work in exercise testing, having published approximately 150 research papers and four textbooks. He is presently the Director of Heart Research at the Memorial Heart Institute. Dr. Ellestad supervises the Chest Pain Program and the Congestive Heart Failure Study Group. He serves as Clinical Professor of Cardiology at UC Irvine, School of Medicine. His special interests include diagnosis and treatment of coronary heart disease, heart attacks and congestive heart failure. |
