Dr. Myrvin Ellestad is the medical director of the MemorialCare Heart and Vascular Institutes (MHVI) cardiac service line. Dr. Ellestad established the cardiology program at MemorialCare, performed the hospitals first heart catheterization and angioplasty and organized the teaching program for cardiology fellows in 1965. He served as Chief of Cardiology at Long Beach Memorial from 1962 to 1988 and as Director of Memorial Heart Institute from its inception in 1988 to 1992.
He is best known for his work in exercise testing, having published approximately 150 research papers and five textbooks. Dr. Ellestad supervises the Chest Pain Program and the Congestive Heart Failure Study Group at Long Beach Memorial and serves as the Clinical Professor of Cardiology at UC Irvine, School of Medicine. His special interests include diagnosis and treatment of coronary heart disease, heart attacks and congestive heart failure.
