Lung Cancer is the second most common cancer in both men and women and is our second leading diagnosis at Saddleback Memorial Medical Center.
The American Cancer Society estimates that almost 16,000 new cases of lung cancer were diagnosed in California in 2011, which accounted for about 11% of all cancer diagnosed in our state that year.
Facing the Facts About Lung Cancer
- Single leading cause of cancer death in the country.
- Accounts for more deaths than breast, prostate, colon, liver and kidney cancers combined.
- Second most diagnosed cancer in both men and women.
- Lung cancer five year survival rate is only 15 percent.
- Never-smokers and former smokers are also at risk for lung cancer.
OFFERINGS
Breathing and Lung Function Tests
Take a deep breath into a spirometer and learn how well your lungs work. Our compact, hand-held spirometer gauges airflow by measuring how much air you breathe in and out and is helpful in evaluating lung function.
Blood Oxygen Levels
In a minute or two, pulse oximetry can provide an easy way of partly assessing your breathing by measuring the oxygen saturation in your blood as it circulates through your finger. Find out your own level and ask an expert what it means.
Learning About and Scheduling a Low-Dose CT Screening for Lung Cancer
Take a really close look at the Low-Dose CT scanner; and while you're there, listen to a Radiologist explain the imaging technology that can diagnosis lung cancers and help save lives.
Smoking Cessation Consultations
Meet with trained consultants and discuss which method of support is best for you to successfully stop smoking.
Learn about Breathe Easy-Live Healthy, free smoking cessation classes offered at Saddleback Memorial.
Nicotine Replacement Advice
Question a pharmacist about what's new and available to you - while you "break the habit". Advice and recommendations from a Saddleback Memorial pharmacist are yours for the asking.
Activity Tolerance Testing
Current or former smokers can step right up with a physical trainer. She can measure your ability to perform a timed stepping exercise, and then show you how you can change your routine to improve your endurance.
Creating a Customized Physical
A registered nurse will guide you through the process of choosing the best way to evaluate your overall health by using the latest technology. You can offer yourself an Executive Physical individualized just for you.
