Stroke Rehabilitation Program

Long Beach Memorial is at the forefront of the latest advances in treating stroke symptoms. The Memorial Stroke Rehabilitation Program offers a comprehensive range of services for stroke patients, including 24 hour emergency services and access to some of the region’s most prominent physicians and sophisticated equipment.

As an active participant in the American Stroke Association’s “Get With The Guidelines” Stroke Center, Long Beach Memorial is making great strides towards minimizing or reversing stroke symptoms. Partnering with the community and other health care professionals is an important mission of the Stroke Program. Primary focuses include education, prevention, and urging immediate medical attention at the start of stroke symptoms.

“Clot-busting procedures are available for reversing stroke symptoms in selected cases. We are also involved in National Institutes of Health (NIH) research that will be instrumental in shaping the future management of interventional strategies for stroke patients,” according to Neurologist Randolph Shey, MD.

An experienced professional neurological team under Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation Specialists Richard Adams, MD and Diemha Hoang, MD provides a continuum of care for individuals recovering from stroke. State-of-the-art rehabilitation services offer a variety of treatment techniques that can include body-weight support treadmill testing for returning to walk as well as a therapeutic indoor pool. Memorial is proud to have many highly educated Therapists who use some of the latest techniques to improve and restore independent function.

Patients receive unique, individualized care and quickly advance in their recovery to the appropriate level of care needed. Memorial Rehabilitation offers an entire continuum of rehab care starting in ICU and continuing through day treatment, home health and outpatient neuro-rehabilitation services. The goal is a timely transition back to the community and prudent management of resources.
